The Law of Superb Execution

Enjoy this short article by Brian Tracy. What distinguishes leaders from followers is the propensity to act, to execute, to simply get started and take action. There are two outstanding resources included in the article that can help you in your current job or business. Also, please feel free to visit me at by clicking HERE or on my picture and you can get my free goal planning kit just for visiting my site. Happy New Year!

The Law of Superb Execution

By Brian Tracy

Leaders are committed to excellent performance of the business task at hand, and to continuous improvement. A leader is the person who chooses the area of excellence for his or her team. A leader knows that excellence is a journey, not a destination. Leaders are committed to being the best in everything they do. They constantly strive to be better in their key result areas. They compare themselves with people, organizations, and products or services that are better than they are, and they are continually improving.

Standards of Excellence

Leaders set standards of excellence for everyone who reports to them. They are ruthless about weeding out incompetence and poor performance. Leaders demand quality work and insist that people do their jobs well. The leader sets the standard of excellence. No one, or no part of the organization, can be any better than the standard that the leader represents and enforces. For this reason, leaders are committed to personal excellence in everything they do.

Leaders are Learners

Leaders are learners, continually striving to be better in their work and personal lives. They read, take additional courses and seminars, and listen to audio programs in their cars. They attend conventions and association meetings, go to the important sessions, and take good notes. They are committed to learning and growing in every area where they feel they can make an even more valuable contribution to their work.

The Maximum Achievement Training Kit

Inspiring People

People are most inspired when they feel they are working for an organization in which excellence is expected. The very best way to motivate and inspire others is for you to announce your commitment to being the best in your field or industry. Then, continually benchmark your performance and the performance of your organization against the very "best in class" in your business.

Core Competencies

Leaders identify their core competencies, the vital tasks they do that are responsible for them being in business. They continually look for ways to upgrade these core competencies to assure that they maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace. Leaders think about the future and identify the core competencies that will be required for success in the years ahead. They then develop plans to acquire those core competencies well before they will be needed to compete effectively in the marketplace of tomorrow.

Action Exercise

Identify your personal core competencies. What are the essential skills of your job, the abilities that make you valuable, if not indispensable? What core competencies do you need to acquire if you want to be the best in your field in the years ahead? Make a plan today to develop the key skills and core competencies you will need tomorrow.

Happy At Work?

“Get happiness out of your work or you may never know what happiness is.” Elbert Hubbard

Your ability to get happiness out of your work becomes easier the closer your work comes to connecting with your passions. A job is something you do for money. A career is something you do based on an inner desire and motivation. Even if you aren’t in the “perfect” career at the moment, you can still get happiness out of your work - if you are willing to passionately throw yourself, your talents and skills into your work.

People who are paid exactly what they are worth (or more) often find themselves replaced, declared obsolete or reengineered out of the organization. On the other hand, people who are underpaid for the amount and quality of the service they provide are always in highest demand - so money and opportunity are always chasing them.

Keep the level of your yearning and learning, ahead of your earning. Be inspired to learn as much as you can, to know as much as you can, to gain skills as much as you can, to find a cause and a passion which benefits humankind - and you’ll be sought after for your quality of service and your dedication to excellence.

Your power, passion and motivation will make you oblivious to quitting time and to the length of your workday. You will awake each and every morning with the passion of pursuit, not just the pursuit of a paycheck and true happiness will be a natural by-product of the passion you are putting into your work.

Those who deliver more in service than they expect to receive in compensation are always sought for and are always in demand. Their name and their work outlive them, and their services always command the highest price. Therefore, you would be most wise to - chase your passion, not your pension!

Bill Gates, who dropped out of college to found Microsoft and become one of the wealthiest individuals in the world before reaching age 40, could retire with a lifestyle of the rich and famous. But he won’t. At a computer industry meeting he told the audience that even though he could do anything he wants, his greatest thrill is to go to work every day and find exciting problems in search of solutions.

Everyone told the artist Renoir to give up painting because he had no talent. A group of artists who were rejected by the establishment of their time formed their own little team consisting of Degas, Pissarro, Monet, Cezanne, and Renoir – five of the all-time great masters, doing what they believed in, pursuing their passions while the critics laughed and mocked. One Parisian expert looked over Renoir’s paintings and sneered: “You are, I presume, dabbling in paint to amuse yourself.” To which Renoir rapidly and passionately replied: “Of course! When it ceases to amuse me, I will stop painting.”

In Renoir’s later life he suffered from advanced rheumatism, particularly in his hands. When Matisse stopped by to see the aging painter, he noticed that every brush stroke caused Renoir great pain. And Matisse asked: “Why is it that you still work? Why do you continue to push yourself?” Renoir slowly answered: “The pain passes, but the pleasure, the creation of beauty, remains.”

Remember – by putting your passion first, you will be able to enjoy happiness today and create a legacy which will truly last.

Strategy and Tactics - What You Need To Know About Both

“Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” —Sun Tzu, The Art of War

When it comes to winning in business and in life there is an important connection between strategy and tactics. Successful entrepreneurs are those who can bring these two vital facets together.

The world is filled with visionaries and strategist who can spew forth great ideas, inspiring concepts and blue-sky, shoot-the-moon opportunities. Unfortunately, many of them are never able to transform those visions into practical, tactical applications which can be executed in order to produce real results.

Even on an individual level there are scores of people who have dreams of grandeur while their head rests on the pillow, or have compelling visions of what is possible when standing in the shower – yet, without any specific tactics they simply lead to frustration and disappointment. With no clear daily tactics the way becomes so slow that victory is often lost, not for lack of opportunity, but for lack of time, resources and energy.

The old saying, “Where there is no vision, the people perish,” is as true today as it was in centuries gone by. Tactics without vision or strategy is drudgery and in the end all of the effort is nothing more than the noise before defeat or window dressing on an empty home. And yet, so many individuals and businesses end up laser focused on day-to-day tactics which are completely disconnected from any strategic path. Ultimately this leads to being busy, but not productive, having much motion, but no forward movement.

Combine the two – strategy and tactics and you will set yourself up for instant impact and real results. As a leader you must constantly strive to connect the dots for those you lead. It is part of your role to continually help those you lead see the vital connection between your strategy and the daily tactics they carry out.

Sun Tzu was right, Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” Together every opportunity will be yours and nothing will keep you from success.

Bloom Where You're Planted

In our fast paced world it is easy to look at others around us and wish that we had their talent, their skill, their house, their bank account and their future. We are bombarded with messages from the media that tell us to look elsewhere for our success.

We are even told that we aren’t smart enough, young enough, secure enough, rich enough or bold enough unless we use their product, drive their car or go on their vacation. Far too many of us are on a wild goose chase in search of some holy grail that will suddenly make us rich, secure, happy and successful.

With all of this searching, more and more of us are getting depressed and discouraged with our lot in life. We feel as though we just don’t have what it takes to be successful and happy. We truly need to stop looking outside and beyond and start looking inside and beneath our own skin to find what success is really all about.

Dr. Russell Conwell of Temple University once delivered a lecture that was quoted in a December 1980 edition of the wall Street Journal. Dr. Conwell told of a man in Titusville, Pennsylvania, who sold his farm for $833 to go off and search for oil in Canada. The man continued his search for many years but never hit oil, never found success and finally gave up his quest in frustration. He had searched high and low for the magic spot that would give him all the success and security he dreamed of. Yet in his chase he came up entirely empty.

The man who purchased the farm for $833, however, settled into his new environment and worked hard at his labors each day. As he dug a well for additional water, he found instead a rich well of oil and launched a billion dollar industry.

Today, with faster communications and transportation, instant access to information and people, it is ever easier to look at the fact that the grass may appear greener on the other side. Yet what really counts is what is going in your own back yard and what is going on in between your own two ears.

The old saying is true that success is like a butterfly -- the more you chase it the more it eludes you-- but if you will settle in and focus on the task at hand, it will come and softly land on your shoulder. So unpack your bags, bloom where you are planted and find the success, joy and satisfaction that is waiting for you, right where you are – blooming in your own back yard.

Excellence Isn't An Accident

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle

Excellence is never an accident - true, lasting, sustainable excellence is a natural by-product of repeated, disciplined action. There are certain disciplines required if you are going to run your business and live your live with excellence.

The legendary Vince Lombardi declared, "Winning isn't a sometimes thing, it is an all the time thing. Winning is a habit - and unfortunately, so is losing." If you are going to win, win big and win over an extended period of time - you must develop the habits of excellence.

Every area of life or business has a set of disciplines or habits which are vital to sustained excellence and success. There are two major factors to developing and deploying these habits of excellence. First, you must understand what the vital habits, skills, attitudes and disciplines are, and second, you must then put yourself on a course to develop them from within.

Talent is important, gifts are great, natural ability goes a long way. Yet, without the discipline to develop the habits of excellence, you will be doomed to mediocrity and middle of the road performance. The path to peak performance personal excellence is littered with talented people who never developed the necessary discipline.

Begin today to identify the habits of excellence you need in your business, or any other area of life, you wish to improve. Then go out and repeat, practice and internalize - make these disciplines true, reflex habits and you will be on your way to achieving the extraordinary.

Strategy and Action: Two Keys to Success

Strategy and Action: Two Keys to Success

Over the past 25 years, I have been involved in leadership positions from school settings, to community projects, to business, to personal life coaching clients. Throughout those years I have spent countless hours reading and researching what makes people successful. I have also been fortunate to have great mentors in my life like Brian Tracy who have helped me personally excel. There are many attributes contributing to success and countless books and dissertations detailing them. However, today I’m going to have you consider two attributes that remain consistent in the research as keys to success: Strategy and Action!

Let’s first address strategy. When you are trying to accomplish an important goal what do you do? Understanding clearly what the goal is, articulating it so it becomes a vivid vision, and writing it down are all key to getting started. But, just writing the goal (although very powerful) isn’t enough to make it happen. You have to strategically plan “how” you’re going to accomplish it.

There are several questions to ask when it comes to strategy:

How will I measure my success of achieving this goal?
Are there constraints of obstacles in my way keeping me from my goal?
Are these constraints internal? Am I holding myself back?
Are these constraints external? Is there something or someone holding me
back?

Are there additional skills and knowledge I require?
Whose help and cooperation do I need?
What should I do more of? Less of?
What should I start doing, or stop doing?

It is important to write these things down on paper. Don’t type them into a computer, get a piece of paper and physically write them. The neuro-connections made by physically writing makes you embed the answers in your subconscious mind. You will be able to more clearly understand each step necessary in order to achieve what you want.

Once you have these things written, don’t be like most people and put off action. Have you ever had the frustrating experience of serving on a committee and all they do is talk never taking action? Likewise, there is nothing more frustrating than when we simply sit on our goals and don’t take action to make them happen. Remember, “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”

We know accomplishing something we have been working toward makes us feel terrific. We release endorphins in our bodies that literally give us a “high” and make us even more effective. Think back to a time when you achieved something or did something really well. Do you remember the feeling of accomplishment? It felt great, didn’t it? Well, that’s what you’ll feel when you take action and execute your plans.

Brian Tracy says, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.” Take the time to plan and strategize, then get busy and take action. How do you take action? Use the mind-storming method I learned from Brian Tracy many years ago.

Mind-storming Questions:

1. Take a clean sheet of paper.
2. Write the goal in the form of a question at the top.
3. Write down a minimum of 20 answers to the question.
4. Select at least one of your answers to take action on it immediately.
5. Write that answer as a question on a new sheet of paper.
6. Develop 20 answers to THAT question.
7. Take action on ONE idea immediately.

Try these things when you are ready to move ahead with making a goal a reality. I’ll be happy to help you in any way I can. If you go to my website at http://www.eagleleadershipconsulting.com you can register to receive a goal planning kit that is totally free…my gift to you for taking the next step in making your dreams into goals, and your goals into reality.

Travel Club - Pays YOU!

I love to travel. Many of my family and friends just watched us on Facebook complete three weeks of traveling west. It was a great experience, and we are ready to travel some more. What we discovered was that we really enjoyed our uninterrupted time together and that we were ready to take on more travel opportunities. Maybe the beach next time?

I just joined Travel Ventures International and the small initiation fee to get started entitles us to a 6 night - 7 day vacation at a beautiful resort of our choice. Plus the initiation fee helped us get started in a great business opportunity where there will never be any additional fees to belong, or any minimum numbers per month, or any things to stock. It's kind of a no-brainer.

I have become part of the fastest growing team in North America, and you can join me too. Just click on this link or copy and paste it into your browser to learn a little more. http://www.tviexpress.com/rstebelton

Lessons of Forgiveness

I have written before about the importance of forgiveness in one’s life in order to move forward. For several weeks I had the privilege of listening to Rev. Charles Imhoff during the Sunday morning services at the Lancaster Campground.

The following are points Rev. Imhoff shared as a summary of his talks. Seven points to consider when you are forgiving. As you read them please contemplate who needs forgiven. Forgive those who did it. Forgive those who did nothing. Forgive yourself.

These points are lessons learned from my Christian faith. I make no apologies to anyone for sharing my faith through this writing and so do not ask forgiveness of the reader in that regard. However, even if you are not of the Christian faith, these lessons work.

  1. Don’t tell anyone! That means you don’t go around telling everyone. You don’t brag about it. You just do it. That also applies to forgiving yourself. Rick Warren has said, “Every time you hold your tongue when attacked or misrepresented, your spiritual power grows. Humility gives you authority.” Forgive them, but keep that to yourself.

  1. Don’t let them be afraid of you! What does this mean? It means that if you have forgiven them, you welcome them back without condition. You do not make them afraid or cautious to talk to you; you simply welcome them and let them know how happy you are to be with them. That’s what Jesus taught us through the parable of the prodigal son.

  1. Don’t make them feel guilty. Well, isn’t that a tough one? You forgive them, but now you’re told you can’t make them feel guilty. Then you say, “Where’s the fun in that?” People who like to make other’s feel guilty truly do not experience the power of full forgiveness.

Imparting guilt is as much a wrong as what the person who wronged you did. I know what you thinking… “but what about the person who kills someone or severely hurts someone on purpose?” Remember that arguing from extremes is the weakest kind of argument. We are talking about regular folks and situations that would likely exist within our daily lives. And, we also know of those who have had severe emotional and physical attacks who have learned to forgive in this manner. It is possible.

  1. When forgiving someone it is important to let them “save face.” Protect their self-esteem. Forgiveness does not involve humiliating them privately or publicly. What good does it do for you to forgive someone only if you humiliate them in the process? And, think about this….part of not humiliating is also forgetting.

You say what? Now I have to help them save face and also forget about it? Yes! Christ teaches us that when we are forgiven, He also forgets. That’s an amazing thing to contemplate. I’ll bet you have said, “Oh, I forgive him. But, I’ll never forget.” I have too, and I guess I still do at times. Forgetting is tough, but we have to try in order to fully realize the power of forgiveness.

  1. Protect them from the darkest secrets! Maybe you are the one who needs forgiveness. There is no doubt about the fact that at some point in time we all do things that are wrong. This is when self-forgiveness really comes into play. God really does want to forgive us and because he desires that, He also desires for you to forgive yourself. It eliminates the negative thought patterns that can so often drag us down. He wants you to confess what you have done to Him, but you don’t have to air out all your dirty laundry to your family, friends and neighbors. Realize your faults, but don’t dwell on them. Learn from your mistakes, but don’t dwell on them. Remember not to argue this point from extremes.

  1. Total Forgiveness is a “life sentence.” You may have to forgive them again and again. You may have to forgive yourself again and again. Ok, now you’re making it tough on me! You mean I have to forgive them multiple times? Yes! Because it may just creep back into your life, or something similar may happen. But, we are taught to forgive many times over, because we are forgiven endlessly. If it is done for us, we have to do it for others too.

  1. You bless them! OUCH! This one is the toughest point. Now that you have forgiven unconditionally, you expect me to bless them? If you can do this final step, you will have advanced to the highest state of forgiveness possible. As humans we have a hard time with this one. But, try it. If someone or some people have wronged you, bless them. If there are people who witnessed others hurting you but did nothing, bless them. Bless them continuously until you absolutely believe in what you are doing. Yes, this is the toughest of all the points of forgiveness, but it is the most powerful and liberating. Remember what Jesus said on the cross? “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”

Are You Ready for Real Change?

Fr: Ron Stebelton, CEO/Founder Eagle Leadership Consulting

Re: Ready for A Change?

In a conversation this morning, my weekly share group talked about the media declaring that the recession is over. We laughed about it because we know that there are successful people in any economy. In fact, there are some people who tell us they absolutely refuse to participate in a recession. I agree!

There is an industry that is a multi-billion dollar industry that thrives in any economy, and that is the professional development industry. People are waking up to the realization that only those who continually engage in ongoing learning to improve their knowledge and skills will be recession-proof.

In Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki explained the importance of owning your own business. And, he recently stated that if he it to do all over again he would have earned his fortune in network marketing.

Until recently only a few very fortunate individuals have been able to fully participate in the professional development industry. That is .... until recently.

Now with the power of iLearningGlobal available 24/7 you can join this industry for a very low start up cost, and begin to earn a long time residual income that could easily surpass your now depleted 401K.

My good friend, Brian Tracy, is the Chief Learning Officer of iLearningGlobal, and my direct partner. You can watch Brian introduce me on my website at http://www.eagleleadershipconsulting.com and sign up for a free goal planning kit at the same time.

If you're interested in learning more about the professional development industry in general please visit http://rstebelton.sponsordaddy.com/ilg.html

And finally, if you are ready to get started today and join the fastest growing business available, go to: http://rstebelton.ilg.tv or http://www.ilearningglobal.biz/rstebelton.

A key factor in being successful is the ability to act. Don't delay! Get started today and join the Stebelton/Tracy team as we continue to expand our operation to over 100 countries.

Ain't It Awful!

Ain’t It Awful?

For the past 8 days my family has been on a 21 day quest to drive and camp our way out to my in-laws in Wyoming and back to our home in Ohio. The trip started out as exciting as any other family vacation. We loaded up the mini-van with our luggage, camping gear, kids and dogs. I have joked that this trip should be labeled “Mr. Marriott Goes Camping.” Up until this trip my idea of camping was a hotel with bad room service.

We traveled our way across Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and moved smoothly into South Dakota. As we were driving toward our campsite near Deadwood, SD I could feel the transmission of our min-van slipping. I was worried since we were driving at night in the Black Hills. Just as we rounded a corner and saw the entrance into the Fish-N-Fry Campgrounds, the transmission completely gave up. Fortunately, we had just enough momentum to coast the mini-van right to a parking spot in front the camp office. It wouldn’t go another inch.

We were so tired after a long day driving that we rented a cabin just for the night, then decided the next morning to set up our tent and get settled while I called various places to see if they could work on our vehicle. I went to the camp office and got suggestions of repair shops from the camp owners, found a place that I was comfortable with who recommended a local tow truck driver, the local tow truck driver was a great guy who recommended a car rental business that was local and honest. Keeping a positive attitude brought the right people together to help us continue our vacation.

No matter what your situation, the only thing you have to ask yourself is; “How can I make this situation work?” Don’t get caught up in self pity and playing the game, “Ain’t It Awful?” It is so easy to get caught up in the negative and let others feed your brain with their “Ain’t It Awful?” stories.

You know the the “AIA” people. They are the ones who say to you things like, “I got up late this morning, my back hurts, my job stinks, my car broke down too and it never was right after that, ……. You need to get away from them as soon as you can.

Negative people attract negative situations and circumstances. Positive people will experience setbacks too, but they deal with them differently and can move on.

Successful people exhibit the following traits:

1.They surround themselves with only positive people and always remain positive no matter what the situation. You become like the people you hang around with.

2.They realize that the only opinion of them that counts is the one they have for themselves.

3.They have learned to forgive. They forgive those who did it. They forgive those who did nothing. They forgive themselves.

4.They learn from their mistakes, but won’t dwell on them.

5.They celebrate their successes, but won’t dwell on them.

6.They invest in themselves and are constantly acquiring new knowledge and skills by reading books, listening to audio programs, or watching experts. They realize they will not live long enough to learn everything they need to know by themselves. They know they have to learn from the experts!

If you have not experienced the power of iLearningGlobal, the EDGE and Premium sites, I invite you to join it today. Go to http://rstebelton.ilg.tv to explore, learn more and join. You will surround yourself with positive people and never again play the “Ain’t It Awful?” game.
