Are You Trapped?
I tell a story using a prop I created out of a hollowed out coconut and some rope. I ask the audience who can tell me what it is? I usually get lots of different responses. Some people suggest it is a child’s game, others come up with elaborate explanations that their creative minds have quickly composed. Then I tell them it is a monkey trap. That’s right a monkey trap!
You see, you have this hollowed out coconut with a rope on it. You tie it around a tree and then fill the coconut with fruit and food that would attract a monkey. The unsuspecting monkey discovers what he believes is a treasure, sticks his hand in it, then clenches his fist around the food. With a clenched fist the monkey is stuck. He won’t let the fruit go because he thinks it is good for him. Thus, he is trapped!
We are like that in many ways. We go about life hanging on to old paradigms that simply don’t work anymore. With our world becoming increasingly smaller and our economic conditions in turmoil, we need to let go of old thought patterns and strike out to find and embrace new ways of making our own economy. Sure we embrace the internet as a means of networking and maybe sharing our business, but are we using it to our best advantage?
So many people are seeking ways to make their own lives better both personally and professionally. They are looking for a way to build home businesses that seemly are hard to get off the ground. The problem is they really don’t treat their efforts like a business. They have no plan! Only about 3% of the population creates plans that will eventually lead to success. They are the ones who succeed in spite of everything that seems to be going wrong in others lives. Change your thinking and release the old negative thought patterns that may be stalling your progress.
Are you priorities straight? Mine are God, Family, and then business. It wasn’t always so. For many years I put my career first over God and Family.
